FIVE THINGS: JUNE
Do you ever get on a kick with a certain restaurant in town, when it seems like you would eat there every night of the week — and maybe you do? We often find ourselves obsessing over things that we love, whether it’s a certain dish at a certain restaurant or wanting to buy just about everything at a newly opened boutique.
This got us thinking: since we almost always have a few things that we’re totally loving here at Urbanist Guide, we thought we’d share them with all of you. This led to our brand new “Five Things” series here on the blog, where we’ll be rounding up five of our favorite things from around Pittsburgh that month. Here are the most recent things that we just can’t stop thinking about while kicking off our summer in the city (and yes, at least one of them involves ice cream).
The rooftop deck at Over Eden.
If it seems like every conversation you’ve been a part of for the past week has somehow turned to “Have you been to Over Eden yet?”, then you’re not alone. Pittsburgh’s latest rooftop bar is the first of its kind in Lawrenceville, and if the creative cocktails and sleek design weren’t enough, the insane city views are enough to make you want to go back every night.
The olive oil ice cream at Millie’s.
It’s so strangely delicious, it almost sounds gross — just like all of the most delicious things do. The olive oil ice cream at Millie’s is the perfect blend of sweet and savory that creates a flavor combination that’s insanely addictive, and when paired with their summer-in-a-cup strawberry flavor (made with fresh, local strawberries, of course), it’s truly the perfect match for a nightly sweet treat.
The Van Gogh in Bloom exhibit at Phipps.
Van Gogh’s florals come to life at this summer flower show, and we can’t stop thinking about ditching our weekday responsibilities for an afternoon spent strolling through the three-dimensional blooms. Since summer weather isn’t quite as summer-y as we’d hope at the moment, this would make a great escape from the rain.
Moop’s bag blanket.
We recently snagged one of these summer blankets from Moop’s flagship store downtown for a friend’s birthday gift, and now we can’t wait to go back for another. This blanket is lightweight and soft, so it makes the perfect thing to throw in your bag (hopefully also from Moop!) for picnic or a day at the pool.
Food trucks at Franklin & Mercer.
On the third Thursday of each month, Franklin & Mercer will host a food truck right out front at their Lawrenceville shop. This week’s truck is Pittsburgh Sandwich Society, which makes a brilliantly convenient meal that still leaves your hands free to shop for specialized menswear. And as always, wash it down with a complimentary Iron City beer. Also, have you seen their new IC Light Mango cans?! We kinda are obsessed).
