Don’t Miss These Summer Events in Pittsburgh This Weekend

Summer is in full swing, and with it comes a laissez faire attitude about making weekend plans. Instead of packing your weekends full of events and errands during the summer, it’s much more fun to have an easygoing attitude about bopping around town and checking out what’s going on.

You’ve kept your weekend schedule pretty free, but now it’s just about time for Friday night drinks and Saturday afternoon exploring. This weekend is going to be a good one with maybe the most summery sun ever, so here are all the things you can’t miss around Pittsburgh while you’re out and about.

Weekend events at AllSummr. The pop-up bar in Uptown has been throwing some of the city’s most creative parties since its opening earlier this summer, and this weekend just might be the most exciting one yet.  Whether you head over Saturday or Sunday the space is going to be buzzing.  Kick off your Saturday with Garfield-based Boom Concepts who will be joining in the action from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. with DJs, a food truck and more.  On Sunday after biking or walking Open Streets (see more below), treat yourself to cold cocktails and more at the unofficial after-party featuring kabobs, salads and cold brew coffee from The Vandal, empanadas from the mega popular Mi Empanada, DJ sets from Formosa and Based Grvce and lots of drink specials from noon until 8 p.m.

Pigeon Bagel’s new home base. Even the most casual bagel lover has likely tried (and fallen in love with) Pigeon Bagel’s scratch-made bagels at farmers markets and cafes around town. Their new Squirrel Hill brick-and-mortar location makes it even easier to get bagel sammies and great espresso drinks any day of the week, plus it boasts sunny, LA-inspired feels throughout the pocket-sized, plant-filled space. Pro tip: there are no seats inside, so take yours to go and enjoy it in the shady park across the street.

Explore the city with Open Streets. Open Streets is the kind of city-wide event that you kind of have to see to full understand — and this weekend is the perfect time to do just that. Streets throughout the city will be closed to car traffic so that you can hop on a bike, grab a walking buddy or take your pup for a stroll along the designated route. This weekend’s route extends up Forbes Avenue from downtown and heads across the Birmingham Bridge into South Side, with lots of fun stops to exercise, eat, drink and shop along the way.

Others events to check out: Picklesburgh, Vine Rewind in the Strip & Molly Alphabet ablum release party at the (finally) reopened Thunderbird Cafe.
