TOWNHOUSE: COLLABORATIVE RETAIL HEAD TO EAST LIBERTY
Seems like East Liberty can’t be stopped these days. On every corner is a construction site touting signs for new housing, hotel rooms, and restaurants. And add modern furniture and home goods to that list. Opening May 3rd, Penn Avenue’s newest storefront is TOWNHOUSE and it isn’t your average retail operation. A collaborative project of Epic Development, The Beauty Shoppe, The Shop in East Liberty and Weisshouse; TOWNHOUSE will only be open for eight short months and will be shaking up the current offerings for furniture in the city.
The idea started when local economic development & strategy firm Epic Development happened upon a modern/industrial furniture supplier out of Florida that peaked their interest. Thinking that there was no store that offered fun, modern furniture at a reasonable price point other than IKEA, Epic began to assemble a group that would add their respective expertise to a collaborative store showcasing the furniture. Weisshouse would bring unique modern pieces to mix with the industrial furniture. The Shop would provide art and table-wares. And The Beauty Shoppe would bring their co-working model to the space in a trial setting. And like that, TOWNHOUSE was born.
With the partnership in place, the next step was a home. The group settled on a storefront in East Liberty that was the former office to design firm Deep Local and resonated with the industrial vibe they were looking for. After light renovations, the space became a effortless cool industrial designed showroom that looks more like Brooklyn than Pittsburgh with furniture colored in peppermint and antique copper on shipping palates.
While we can’t wait to show you the inside (its looks great but they are holding off previews of the space til next week), TOWNHOUSE did share with us some of the amazing pieces they will be stocking. And don’t forget, they are only here til December so go see them soon before they are gone!
