We normally love the occasional date night in, but now that that’s the only type of date night available, it might not seem quite as cozy or romantic. Instead of making pasta and binging a Netflix series on the couch (for the fifth night this week), up the romance in your home and plan your own date night free of distractions. You’ll be surprised how much it makes you feel a sense of normalcy, and it just might help you to reconnect with your partner away from all the day-to-day quarantine stress.

Here are some sweet ideas for date night at home (and one not at home).

A wine tasting. There are still a few places in town offering contact-free wine pickup or delivery, including Tina’s, the Warren, and Acorn. Whether you buy it locally or order a case of wine online, learning about wine together makes the perfect date night in — and a few candles and some dim lighting never hurts.

Ramen to-go (with a cocktail on the side). You have been cooking up a storm so put that spatula down and pick up your phone to order a steaming bowl of ramen from Ki Ramen or one of the bento boxes from Umami’s to-go menu. If you’re really looking to go all out, take advantage of their takeout booze and order a bottle of sake to pair with your meal.

A Row House Cinema movie online. Here’s a cool one: for the movie buff couple, Row House is offering an “online cinema” that would make the perfect date night in. Make your own popcorn, pour a glass of wine (noticing a theme here) and settle in on the couch for a virtual indie movie night — plus, 50% of your purchase goes directly to Row House, so you’ll be supporting the theater even while you watch from home.

Dessert before dinner from Millie’s. This is a weird time, and it may feel like there are no rules anymore. Wine with lunch? Sure! Dessert before dinner? Why not! If this is all striking a chord, we’d like to suggest a sundae box from Millie’s to-go… and that’s it. You’ve been making dinner all week, so just give it a rest and treat yourself to the most indulgent date night possible: a sundae for two, a silly board game, and an early bedtime.

A picnic in the park. Who says date night has to be at night? With 60s and sunny in the forecast, grab a blanket and to-go from well, anywhere…and find yourself a sunny spot on Flagstaff Hill in Oakland or West Park in the North Side.  The current way to our heart is the spam fried rice from the newly opening Hapa Hawaiian Grill in Uptown. Bring some cards or books and make a lazy afternoon of it.
